IKEA Recalls Children's Folding Tent Due to Laceration and Puncture Hazards (October 6, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.Name of Product: BUSA children’s folding tent. Units: About 58,000; 51,000 in the United States and 7,000 in Canada. Importer: IKEA North America Service, of Conshohocken, Pa. Hazard: The steel wire frame of the tent can break, producing sharp wire ends that can protrude through the tent fabric, posing a laceration or puncture hazard. Sold exclusively at: IKEA stores nationwide from August 2011 through September 2011 for about $8. Read more here...

LED Night Lights Recalled by Camsing Global Due to Burn Hazard (September 2, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of product: LED night lights Units: About 10,000. Hazard: The LED night lights can overheat, smolder, and melt which may cause minor burns to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received five reports of the recalled LED night lights overheating, smoldering or melting. No injuries have been reported. Distributed by: Various companies as a free promotional product, imprinted with the company's name from December 2010 through March 2011. Read more here...

Target, Select Brands Recall Chefmate Blender Due to Laceration Hazard (September 15, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Chefmate® 6-Speed Blender Units: About 304,000 Importer: Target Corporation, of Minneapolis Hazard: While in operation, the plastic pitcher can separate from the blade assembly, leaving the blade assembly in the base and exposing the rotating blades. U.S., Canada and Mexico Join Forces to Strengthen Consumer Product Safety Across North America (September 27, 2011) BETHESDA, MD - Today, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada, and the Consumer Protection Federal Agency of the United Mexican States (Profeco) concluded a first-of-its-kind consumer product safety Summit that was aimed at strengthening the protections for children and consumers throughout North America. The three federal agencies with jurisdiction over consumer products in the United States, Canada, and Mexico issued a joint statement (Español) (pdf) promoting greater cooperation and engagement in ensuring the safety of products made and sold across North America. Read more here...

Shermag Recalls to Repair Drop-Side Cribs Due to Entrapment, Suffocation and Fall Hazards (September 29, 2011)WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Drop-side cribs Units: About 2,300; about 800 in Canada Manufacturer: Shermag Inc., of Quebec, Canada Hazard: The drop-side rail hardware on the cribs can break or fail, allowing the drop side to detach from the crib. When the drop side detaches, a hazardous gap is created between the drop-side rail and the crib mattress in which infants and toddlers can become wedged or entrapped, posing risks of suffocation and strangulation. In addition, children can fall out of the crib when the drop-side rail falls unexpectedly or detaches from the crib. Drop-side rail failures can also occur due to incorrect assembly or with age-related wear and tear. Riding Toy Recalled by Radio Flyer Due to Fall Hazard (August 16, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Scoot 'n Zoom children's riding toy. Units: About 165,000. Distributor: Radio Flyer, of Chicago, Ill. Hazard: The riding toy can tip over allowing a child to fall forward while riding, posing a fall hazard to young children. Bravo Sports Recalls Disney-Branded Pogo Sticks Due to Fall and Laceration Hazards (July 29, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Pogo sticks. Units: About 159,000. Distributor: Bravo Sports of Santa Fe Springs, Calif. Note: Disney licensed its brand name to Bravo Sports. Hazard: The bottom rubber tip attached to the pogo stick frame can wear out prematurely, posing a fall hazard to consumers. Also, the end caps on the handlebars can come off, exposing sharp edges. This poses a laceration hazard to consumers. Read more here...

It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Hamilton Beach® classic chrome 2-slice toasters Units: About 300,000 Hazard: The heating element in these toasters can remain energized indefinitely when an item is placed in the toaster which may ignite the contents, posing a fire hazard if the toaster is near flammable items. GAMMA Sports Recalls Children's Tennis Racquets Due to Risk of Lead Exposure (June 23, 2011) The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product:Quick Kids Junior Tennis Racquets Units:About 2,000 Manufacturer:GAMMA Sports, of Pittsburgh, Pa. Hazard: The orange grip tape on the tennis racket's handle contains high levels of lead. HP Expands Recall of Notebook Computer Batteries Due to Fire Hazard (May 27, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Name of Product:Lithium-ion batteries used in HP and Compaq notebook computers. Units: About 162,600 additional batteries (54,000 and 70,000 batteries were previously recalled in May 2010 and May 2009, respectively) Importer: Hewlett-Packard Company, of Palo Alto, Calif. Hazard: The recalled lithium-ion batteries can overheat and rupture, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. Read more here...

Pampers Pacifiers Recalled by Key Baby Due to Choking Hazard (April 5, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Pampers® Natural Stages Infant Ortho and Bulb Pacifiers Units: About 29,000 Importer: Key Baby LLC, of Lutz, Fla. (Note: Pampers® licensed their brand name to Key Baby). Lasko Recalls Box Fans Due To Fire Hazard (March 24, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Box fans. Units: About 4.8 million units. Manufacturer: Lasko Products Inc., of West Chester, Pa. Hazard: An electrical failure in the fan's motor poses a fire hazard to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: Lasko has received seven reports of fires associated with motor failures, including two house fires and one barn fire, resulting in extensive property damage. Read more here...

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: FÖRSTÅ Coffee/Tea Makers. Units: About 94,000 in the U.S. and 34,000 in Canada. Distributor: IKEA Home Furnishings, of Conshohocken, Pa. SafetyCraft "Generation 2 Worldwide" Drop-Side Cribs Pose Risks of Strangulation, Suffocation (February 3, 2011) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers that "SafetyCraft" brand full-size and portable drop-side cribs manufactured or distributed by Generation 2 Worldwide of Dothan, Alabama, contain drop-side hardware that appears to be identical to Generation 2 Worldwide ChildESIGNS brand drop-side cribs recalled in February 2010. This hardware found on SafetyCraft drop-side cribs can fail and place infants and toddlers at risk of strangulation and suffocation. CPSC staff urges parents and caregivers to stop using these cribs immediately and find an alternative, safe sleeping environment for their baby. Do not attempt to fix these cribs. Read more here...

Counterfeit Pesticide Products for Dogs and Cats (Years 2010 & 2011) EPA, in cooperation with its state and regional regulatory partners, is announcing the issuance of stop sale, use, and removal orders to retailers and other distributors of certain counterfeit pesticide products for control of fleas and ticks on dogs and cats. The stop sale, use, and removal orders are intended to disrupt an effort to distribute counterfeit pet pesticides. Read more here...

Kroger Recalls Pet Foods Due to Possible Health Risk December 18, 2010 - The Kroger Co. said today it is recalling select packages of Pet Pride, Old Yeller & Kroger Value pet food sold in some of its retail stores because the products may contain aflatoxin, which poses a health risk to pets. Kroger stores in the following states are included in this recall: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
